Day trip to Cahir (& Cashel):
A day trip to Cahir with an option to also visit Cashel makes for a pleasant and enjoyable day out. Cahir is easily accessed by rail from Dublin, Cork, Limerick and several other locations. All trains have free Wi-fi and certain trains additionally have onboard catering.
A suggested plan for such a day trip could be to first call into the Craft Granary and then proceed to either Cahir Castle or Swiss Cottage. After lunch visit the other or take the twenty minute coach trip to Cashel (there’s a coach departing Cahir at 13.20hrs and a return coach from Cashel at 16.05). These day trips are possible Mondays to Saturdays inclusive (not Bank Holiday Mondays). Itineraries from Dublin/Cork/Kerry and Limerick are given hereunder (if timings for your starting station are not shown these may be found by visiting the Irish Rail website).
From Dublin to Cahir:
Outward journey: Catch the 08.00 train (destination Cork) from Dublin Heuston. After leaving the suburbs of the capital behind the train traverses the Curragh of County Kildare. The train travels at speeds of up to 100mph. Upon arrival at Limerick Junction at 09.33 there is an easy cross-platform transfer onto the South Tipperary line train (destination Waterford) which departs at 09.45. Return journey: Depart Cahir at 17.30 arriving into Limerick Junction at 18.05 (change trains). Depart Limerick Junction at 18.17 arriving into Dublin Heuston at 20.00.
