This page presents a number of suggested day trips by train for people living or staying in South County Tipperary. This days out section is under development and it is hoped to add further trip suggestions over time.

Waterford & Dunmore East:
Due to a change in the timing of the return bus from 15.30 to 15.45hrs from Dunmore East to Waterford since Bus Éireann began operating the former Suirway route in November 2022 a day trip to Dunmore East is no longer feasible for rail passengers using the South Tipp line.

Waterford & Dunbrody famine ship, New Ross:
Outward journey: Depart Limerick Junction 09.45/ Tipperary 09.57/ Cahir 10.20/ Clonmel 10.37/ Carrick-on-Suir 11.01 arriving at Waterford Plunkett at 11.26.
Waterford: Over an hour free in Waterford to go to the shops or perhaps a visit to Reginald's Tower.
New Ross: Catch the route 40 Bus Éireann bus at 13.15 from Waterford Bus Station.
Arrive in New Ross at 13.35. The Dunbrody famine ship is a short stroll from the bus stop. The tourist office is also adjacent and can provide any further information that may be required. The town's shopping streets are nearby.

Return journey: The Bus Éireann route 370 bus departs New Ross at 15.35, arriving at Waterford Bus Station at 16.05.
The train departs Waterford Plunkett at 16.25 arriving back in Carrick-on-Suir at 16.49/ Clonmel at 17.12/ Cahir at 17.30/ Tipperary at 17.51/ Limerick Junction at 18.05.
* Fota Wildlife Park (with additional option of Cóbh/Cork City):
Outward journey: depart Waterford Plunkett 07.20/ Carrick-on-Suir at 07.45/ Clonmel 08.08/ Cahir 08.25/ Tipperary 08.47, change at Limerick Junction arriving at Cork Kent at 10.35. Catch the 11.00 Cóbh train arriving at Fota station at 11.13. The entrance to the wildlife park is adjacent to the station.
Afterwards either continue to Cóbh (11 minutes by train) or return to Cork city (14 minutes by train).
Cóbh: The train journey from Fota to Cóbh takes 11 minutes. Trains depart Fota at: 12.13, 13.13, 14.13 & 15.13.
Attractions in Cóbh include the Heritage Centre beside the station and St. Colman's Cathedral. There are several buildings and landmarks around the town associated with the Titanic. Guided walking tours are available. Depart Cóbh at 16.30, arriving at Cork Kent at 16.54.
Cork: Trains to Cork depart Fota at 12.40, 13.40, 14.40, 15.40, 16.40 (for time to look around Cork take the 14.40 train at the latest) and takes 14 minutes. The main shopping area is around a ten minute walk or a short bus journey (Bus Éireann route 205) from Cork Kent station.
Return journey: Depart Cork Kent at 17.20, change at Limerick Junction and arrive back in Tipperary 18.52/ Cahir 19.15/ Clonmel 19.32/ Carrick-on-Suir 19.56/ Waterford 20.20.
Catering is available onboard the Limerick Junction to Cork train both ways.
